Elbert Tuganov



Elbert Tuganov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. 1927 he went to Germany and graduated in 1931 from the primary school and Gymnasium in 1939, both in Berlin. In the same year, 1939, he come back to Estonia to serve in the Estonian Army as the citizen of Estonia.In the beginning of the World War II the Estonian Army was connected with the Red Army and he was evacueted to the Altai Krai. Served in the Red Army until the end of the war 1945. Beginning from January 1946 he started working in the “Tallinnfilm” studio until his retirement in 1983.
In 1957 he started to make the first animation films in Estonia and was over 30 years the director of animation films. He has made 38 animation films and received the first international awards. After retirement he kept working part time at the same place. He wrote some scripts and in 1998 he released an autobiographical book “Walking through the Century”.
